#2. design your online portfolio
An "online portfolio" is like a resume for artists.
It is a public way to share your artwork.
It is a public way to share your artwork.
We're going to use the Weebly platform because it is extremely easy and quick to use for beginners.
Register for a new account. (If you were in my class last year, you can use the same account but clear out all the old assignments.) The free version of this program adds ".weebly.com" - that's fine, do NOT buy a ".com" url domain.
Do not put your name or location anywhere on the website. Your url must be professional and appropriate.
Examples: Use your initials with a year - nf23art.weebly.com or nfgraphicdesign.weebly.com
We'll take a few class periods to design and play around with weebly to make your portfolio unique and show your personality. Practice using the tools to add a picture, add text, etc. Delete the stock pages, text, and imagery.
Make a page titled "Semester 1 Assignments." This will make it easy for me to find your projects.
You will use this online portfolio to submit every assignment.
Send me an email with your weebly address.
Graded on effort and using class time wisely.

#3. inspiration board
Create a page on your website titled "Inspiration"
Create a Gallery of images that is a cross between an "about me" and things in the world that inspire you to be creative, such as places you would like to travel to or artists you admire.
At least 6 images. At least 3 should be original images (photos you took).
Your images must be school appropriate.
Advice about adding photos to Weebly:
- Weebly cannot store photos that have the same file name (ex: image.jpg), so if you notice that an image is showing up where you meant to put upload a different one, check the file names.
- Weebly can only take jpg and png picture file types

In Photoshop, there are often many ways to solve the same problem.
In this assignment, the end result could be achieved in different ways, but I want this assignment to be a simple introduction to the tool "Layer Masks". Follow the tutorial. Two images, - one with colored background - one with transparent background and drop shadow 15 points |
#8. inspiration abstract collage
Using the pictures from your Inspiration Board, create an abstract collage by selecting pieces of your inspiration board images.
Abstract means unrecognizable. The selections of your images can be pieces that make it hard to tell what it is. There should be no neon background showing in your project. 20 points |
Make a 500 x 500 px canvas.
Bucket fill the background a neon color. Add your inspiration photos as layers. You may add more photos to use if you don't have enough material. Use your skills in selection and mask to create an abstract collage. |

#12. Art history parody
Shusaku Takaoka photoshop parody artist
|
Pick a famous painting.
You can go to this website for ideas: https://www.brushwiz.com/most-famous-paintings/ *Please submit a school appropriate image* Use the skills we have practiced so far to make a "parody" of the painting by photoshopping something unexpected/ridiculous into the scene. Remember to work on separate layers. 30 Points |
NOTICE! What makes Takaoka's artwork successful is their extreme attention to photoshop details. The modern day objects Takaoaka adds to the painting "fit in" in a visual sense, meaning that shadows are added, light source matches the painting image, and the objects are on the correct angles to fit into the illusion of the 3-D space.
The biggest reason that the photoshopped objects visually stand out is because they are modern objects in obviously old paintings and/or because the characters are doing something ridiculous.
