Best known for his internationally successful animated films like Spirited Away (2001) and Princess Mononoke (1997). In 1963, Miyazaki began working at Toei Animation doing the intermediary frames for animated shows and films. In 1985 Miyazaki along with three others and outside funding founded Studio Ghibli. About the Artwork: Miyazaki’s art style is unique, distinct and combines both Japanese (anime/manga) and American animation together. Miyazaki’s style combines soft and painterly backgrounds with more simplified yet expressive characters. A firm proponent of hand-drawn animation at a time when computers began to replace animators. Some of Miyazaki’s recurring themes throughout his films are the conflict between human progress and natural order and the persistence of the spiritual world alongside the mundane. |
