Kruger worked in graphic design for Condé Nast Publications at Mademoiselle magazine, and was promoted to head designer within a year, at the age of twenty-two. About the Artwork: Kruger is a Conceptual artist known for her combination of text and image. Her works examine stereotypes and consumerism with text layered over mass-media images. Her decade of background in commercial design is evident in the work for which she is now internationally renowned. Much of her text questions the viewer about feminism, classicism, consumerism, and individual autonomy and desire, although her black-and-white images are culled from the mainstream magazines that sell the very ideas she is disputing. |
